Please introduce yourself and tell us a little about what you do.

I’m an adventure, lifestyle photographer and filmmaker based in Vancouver, BC. I specialize in engaging storytelling and creating social media campaigns to help brands reach larger audiences. I grew up here in Vancouver and I love spending my time in the mountains or traveling whenever I can!

Tell me about your introduction to photography or where it all began for you?

I started taking photos when I was in high school. I loved streetwear and sneakers, and I had a few friends who were also into photography. We would go out and do some rooftopping while taking fit pics or photos at parkades. We would frequent that one blue parkade; Vancouverites know what I’m talking about. Eventually I focused on taking portraits and shooting events until the pandemic hit which required a shift in focus. I began hiking and taking landscape photos as it was the most accessible.

Why do you think photography is important and what are your goals for being a photographer?

I think photography is important because this medium provides the opportunity to capture and preserve memories of our adventures and experiences in the natural world. Moments captured allow me to relive the excitement, emotion and share those experiences with others in greater detail. I can document my personal achievements and milestones, such as climbing a mountain, completing a hike, or exploring a new place. Through photography we can share the beauty and majesty of the natural world and inspire others to explore and appreciate nature for themselves.

I am working towards traveling full time exploring beautiful places while working with brands that I believe in and stand behind. Becoming a Leica ambassador would be amazing.

Where do you find inspiration and what are some things that influence your work?

I find inspiration from photobooks and if I’m honest, social media. When used properly social media can connect you with amazing creatives around the world. I enjoy following creatives that I know, staying connected to their work and how it can challenge me to continually improve.

My influence varies depending on the medium of photography I am working with. My image composition changes between digital and film photography. When shooting film, I am drawn to simple or everyday moments. Different locations, urban or natural landscapes, also influence the way I work and change the composition of my images.

What are your favorite topics to photograph?

I am drawn to photographing adventure, lifestyle and automotive subjects. I love exploring new places and capturing vast landscapes and incorporating lifestyle photography into these settings when the opportunity presents itself. Incorporating a human element into landscape photography creates a compelling narrative and relatability for the viewers. Automotive photography is a new endeavor and I have been having a blast as it challenges me to shoot in new and creative ways. Working with Ford allowed me creative freedom as they set me loose for a week with a vehicle to go explore and create content.

Do you have any advice for someone looking at getting into photography work?

Build a strong portfolio, create a strong brand identity, reach out to people and make friends, and don’t be afraid of rejection. You will hear “no” before a “yes”, but you must be okay with that. You only get out as much as you put in.

In closing, what's the best thing about being a photographer based in British Columbia?

Specifically in Vancouver, the proximity to nature. We are so spoiled being surrounded by nature in every direction of the city! Having access to mountains in a 20-minute is amazing. North Cascades south of us, Vancouver Island to the west, Chilliwack to the east, and Squamish/Whistler and all those coastal mountain ranges to the north. There is so much to explore if you look for it, always somewhere new to go!
