A Splash of Colour in
Palm Springs

I’ve always appreciated places with a bit of character, and The Saguaro certainly has that. It’s colourful and a little quirky. From the bright exterior walls to the umbrellas surrounding the pool, there’s something fun about the whole place. As a photographer, I enjoyed how different it felt from the desert landscapes surrounding it. It’s the kind of place where you can wander around with a camera and find little details worth capturing all over the property.

The pool is the centre of it all. During the day, it’s full of people escaping the heat, with music playing in the background. The pool area comes alive in the afternoon as people settle in with margaritas and watch the sun drop behind the mountains. It’s lively and social, making it a great place to spend an afternoon.

One of my favourite things about staying here is the location. The Saguaro is a great base for exploring Palm Springs, with downtown just a short cycle away and the Palm Springs Art Museum around a 15-minute ride away. You can spend the day wandering around town, checking out the shops, restaurants, and mid-century modern architecture before returning to the hotel for some time by the pool. It makes for a nice balance between getting out and exploring and having somewhere comfortable to relax.

Mornings were my favourite. I’d make a pour-over coffee on the deck while the attendants cleaned the pool and enjoy the quiet before the day got going. There was something nice about having that slower start, especially when the desert sun was already warming everything up. The hotel felt like a completely different place compared to the lively afternoons.

I think that contrast is part of what makes The Saguaro one of my favourite places to stay. It’s somewhere you can be social and enjoy the atmosphere, but also find a little space to yourself when you need it. The colourful design adds to the experience, making even the quieter moments feel a little more interesting.

Palm Springs has plenty to offer beyond the hotel, from its architecture and food scene to the desert landscapes just outside town. But I enjoyed having a place that was just as memorable to return to at the end of the day.

I left with way too many photographs and a longing to return. And I have. The Saguaro isn’t trying to be understated or blend into its surroundings, and that’s exactly what makes it fun. Sometimes a little colour and a poolside margarita are all you need.
